Grandma Janet came to visit!! Janet came for 3 weeks in October. We had such a wonderful time with her! The kids just loved spending time with her. It rained almost the entire time she was here. Despite the weather, we saw so many things together.
Olivia and Janet at the Lego store
We went to Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød, North of Copenhagen.
As we were walking through a courtyard at the castle, we came across a class of kids- 4 and 5 year old's maybe. They were all dressed up like knights and princesses and other random costumes. The kids in Denmark do the coolest things with their classes!
Graham at the fountain outside the main door.
Another day we walked around Nyhavn and took a boat tour.
This huge ad in Nyhavn had a Boston that looked just like Bug! The kids loved it!
Olivia twirling in excitement at the big Bug picture.
Janet was excited too!
Random building with these amazing vines.
Boat tour of the harbor
Olivia likes to squeeze into the cargo spot in the back of the stroller. I am very aware that one day this will break my stroller but she loves doing it so much so I go with it!
We walked down to The Little Mermaid in the pouring rain. This is my favorite picture of Janet's trip!
Janet's family is from a small town in Denmark called Sorø. It is only about an hour from Copenhagen. It is such a cute little town with amazing churches. We will take Ann there next year when she comes again. This building above is a little museum. It was very quaint.
Beautiful church in town.
Inside the church
Olivia tried to open every door she saw.
Charming house just outside the church down by the water.
The church on the left from a distance.
Random post in the ground that Olivia decided to play with.
We got in our car and drove to another church.
This church was AMAZING! I loved this one! Unfortunately it was closed. It was a Saturday.
Some of Janet's family were married and some were buried here at this church.
Building next to the church
Views from on top of the hill that the church is on.
We will come back and go inside that church.
This church is over 1000 years old. It is in a nearby town called Slagelse.
View from a window at the top of a winding staircase.
Janet at another church in Sorø where her family was married. What a beautiful town and I think Janet was so happy to see where her mom's side of her family came from. Janet's ancestors moved from Denmark to the US in the late 1800's. Matthew and I joke about how his ancestors made all these sacrifices to move to the US and start a brand new life and all that entails and then Matthew and I up and moved back to Denmark! I wonder what his ancestors think!
